So I couldn't find the old thread where I was begging for an Averatech 12" notebook. Well, after pining for...I'm not sure how long but it's been years now since I first saw this thing at Circuit City. Let me think back - I was getting my tires replaced after some serious vehicle problems. That was in the Fall...must have been around October of 2004 when I first wanted this thing. So for two and a half years now, I've drooled at this notebook and never done anything about it.
Today I said no more!
I was planning on ordering a few books for myself. I like having hard copies of things to learn, mostly cause it's something to do away from the screen. So I bought Hardening Linux [amazon.com], Postfix: The Definitive Guide [amazon.com] (for reference), and LDAP System Administration [amazon.com] (cause I've never worked with LDAP). I also replaced a really nice set of headphones I bought just over a month ago which have already crapped out. Word of warning: "Razer Barracuda HP-1 Gaming Headphones" look nice, but are shoddily constructed.
Then I decided just for fun to look around for this laptop again. Turns out, everywhere that stocked these is completely out. Even Averatec [shopaveratec.com]'s site doesn't list them anymore. This thing has been through a pretty big number of model changes since I first wanted it, and now it will be mine!
So without further ado, check it out [reviews.cnet.com]. This review is the EV1 model, while mine is the EH1. The only difference is mine comes with 512M of RAM instead of 1G. I can deal with that. I also picked up an extra battery, and a slick little neoprene padded sleeve for it. Here's some pics:

I picked up a couple bags to carry it in too:

I couldn't decide what color to get that in, so I got both OD green and black.
The moral of today's story: I'm a consumer whore.
On a side note, I've been deathly ill for the last two weeks straight. Today is the first day I actually have started to feel better. Yippee.
