Yipes. I'm rather displeased with the hosting provider [vpslink.com] for the server running userlame.com. I've had issues with them in the past, but nothing that bothered me terribly; until today.
The server went down at about 23:35 GMT, and I submitted a ticket with them immediately.
An hour later (!!!), I finally got a response saying (paraphrased) "Sent your issue to our sysadmins...we'll let you know when it's fixed."
Two more hours passed with no word (!!!), and I requested an update on the issue.
Yet another hour passed (!!!) before a sysadmin finally wrote back. I was told there was an issue with the hardware node running this server (it's a xen VM). And that was it. End of story, ticket closed. No explanation of the hardware issue, not a hint of why it took 4 freaking hours to get the machine back up.
The site will be moving to a different server within the next few days. This server will be demoted to secondary and less important services.
If anyone was disturbed by the downtime (ha!), my apologies.
